Ericailcane makes graphic art, street art (most notably in collaboration with street artist Blu as demonstrated in this video), animations, sculptures, installations, tattoos and loads of drawings. Not a new interview per se, but a great one courtesy of one of our favourite online magazines Scoute. This one in particular was done just prior to Mr. Geller's S/S 09 show, which we currently have stock of. It's a great piece detailing some background information on the label and the man himself, featuring some really interesting tidbits and insights into his thoughts and design process.

What really intrigues me is the guy that I design for. In my mind he is always kind of a tough guy that loves his mother very much. He is a romantic but he is also very sure of himself. He gets into fights but he also loves to go to museums. I love this idea. This to me is a kind of unexpected beauty. My style is a mixture of these masculine garments with softer more romantic elements.

We have recently come back from a brief New York buying trip to bring fresh and amazing fashion labels to Australian shores. We have chosen them based on timelessness and transcendence of trends, which are reflected in their vision and pieces. In the upcoming posts we will be introducing these labels to you, followed by detailed entries on individual pieces. Stay tuned!

Pleasure Principle was founded in 2002 by New York based artists/designers Adrian Cowen and Diva Pittala. Their pieces are conceptual and geometric, often featuring unique silhouettes and multiple ways of wearing while still being casual enough for everyday use.

We have brought in pieces from their S/S 09 range, with dresses constructed around the concept of "4 squares" as a starting point. This has resulted in brilliant details and forms like kimono sleeves, draped hoods and attached "scarves" that can be styled to produce a multitude of looks. Pieces come in great lightweight materials for spring/summer like a supersoft jersey, silk and silk chiffon.

Robert Geller is a New York-based designer from the now-defunct but forever-legendary label Cloak (with Alexandre Plokhov). He started his eponymous menswear line for Fall/Winter 2007 to critical acclaim, and received the GQ/CDFA Best New Menswear Designer Award this February, a testament to his outstanding work in the field of current mens fashion.

We have brought in a few items from his Spring/Summer 09 collection, such as shirts featuring details such as raw hems and adjustable sleeve drawstrings, as well as soft T-shirts with geometric paneling and understated prints. All items are made in Japan in luxurious materials.

United Bamboo was launched in NYC in 1998, as a project representing both a fashion label and cultural lifestyle. Founders Miho Aoki and Thuy Pham have brought creative minds together with collaborations in the underground arts and music scenes, expanding their vision through multiple fields and mediums. In the world of fashion, they are well known for their innovative, architectural forms and patterns, along with just the right amount of detailing such as origami pleats to make the pieces truly amazing.

This time, we have brought in select pieces from their SS09 collection (shown above), just in time for our Southern hemisphere Spring/Summer. Pieces exhibit feminine cuts juxtaposed with geometric elements in pastel shades, put together with immaculate construction and materials while featuring intricate details like pleats and beads.

Introducing up-and-coming Melbourne label above, a collaboration between two of the original members of all of the above. Their pieces often feature interesting elements in structure and function that makes it intrinsically unique but still extremely wearable; minimalist without being boring, architectural without being pretentious. Feiyue Shoes

Feiyue Shoes ('flying forward' in Chinese) is a label steeped in tradition but now established as a cult brand for sneaker fetishists. They were founded in the 1920s in Shanghai and became popular in the 30s as Chinese martial arts footwear. Coupled with their recent refining of quality standards in construction and materials after being picked up by a French company for distribution into the Western world, Feiyue has all the heritage and function to make it as much of a reliable new favourite as Converse, Vans or Spring Court sneakers.

The shoes are flexible and light, and while traditionally used for martial arts (which makes it all the more awesome), the updated French version we have works excellent as everyday sneakers due to its streamlined classic design, vintage/retro feel, and comfortable nature. Get them to replace your beat up canvas sneakers this spring/summer without having the same old brands that everyone else has.

The recent erratic weather in Melbourne has made me wish I pulled this out earlier so I'd have stayed dry in the rain but still cool when the sun came up. This is the perfect jacket for the constantly sub-transeasonal climate here - light enough to use in spring but substantial enough in fall. Leave open for a more casual look or button all the way up for more protection against the cold. The hood hidden in the collar (not pictured) allows for weathering wetter days or just for a different look.

Made of a waterproof 100% polyester with breathable inner mesh lining. Buttons at sleeve ends, epaulets and all the way up to the neck, allowing the collar to snap shut together. Pockets at sides and on left breast with zipper. Includes a hood zipped up in the collar with adjusting straps.

Dusty men parade through the streets like royal soldiers in July, I wander these streets, searching for who knows what hell knows where,

the cobbled street creeps under my feet and im on the hunt for something. im sure I just don’t know what it is,
white headphones and thoughts that circle through the sub way underground passages and tunnels lead to other tunnels and escalators that take us up passageways and alley ways, we make eye contact on the tube, she looks I look, she smiles I smile but no word come out, the chick chick chick of the train and im left speechless and then the doors open and she vanishes and the whole way home I think of all the other worlds of all the words that I wanted to say but couldn’t wouldn’t and won’t ever get the chance to say to her,
and then she’s gone and only a memory left on this page, at this stage I should give it up but my heart beats more and more for that feeling of bliss, a kiss from her lips that reach out and warm up my body on this cold April day, it doesn’t go away that flame that burns and we yearn for touches of angels that have no wings that tell us they get us, they get this, they know what it is that is, and what is what and how its meant to be, but then maybe we never really know and I walk up hills and see my reflection in the shop windows of bookstores and fashion stores and people walk like its Sunday and it is Sunday and one day I wont walk alone anymore but right now when you want to write when you want to have no one to answer too its ok,
because when you’re alone you hear yourself and no one else.
no whispers in your ear. no one to tell you anything you don’t want to know or don’t want to disagree with, and the streets as I walk I can’t feel how tired I am in my legs cause the rush of being here just keeps me going and every stop I get off at I feel like it’s the first time I have been here,
and its all fresh and London has an energy that you cant really touch but you feel it as you walk through Soho at 5pm when the sun is out and you feel it when you walk on Regent st and the swarms of people just keep swarming and if you bend down to tie your laces you might just get walked over, the beats of the city and heartbeats and bus stops and grey skies then blues skies and grey walls and its mixture of everything and anything and it’s the gate way to the world and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else right now and maybe soon you’re reflection will be seen with mine as soon I build up the courage to actually look at you and say what I want to say without a hundred pairs of eyes watching me trying to talk to you on a crowded tube at 7am, the timing is right when its right and tonight we’ll fight on and maybe we’ll see you in the morning or tomorrow or sometime then,
but until that day I can only hope that you’re there somewhere thinking of all the things you maybe wanted to say to me, but we’ll see we’ll just wait and see shall we?
